Buy the right sound meter for home, work, and site checks

It measures noise level in decibels so you can check rooms, machinery, events, or workplace environments.

A sound level meter is usually held in one place for spot readings; a dosimeter is worn to track exposure over time.

A-weighting adjusts readings to reflect how people hear quieter and mid-range sounds, which is useful for many everyday checks.

C-weighting is useful when you want a broader view of louder or bass-heavy sounds, such as machinery or music playback.

Not always. Pick a range that covers your expected noise levels, since an oversized range can make a meter less convenient to use.

Only if you want to save readings, review trends, or monitor noise over a longer period instead of taking a single check.
