Excellent bit of kit (so hubby says!) Very reasonably priced. We have used to locate damp patches in both caravans and a camper. Seems to be accurate and has pinpointed those areas which need further investigation. Very easy to use, with clear and bright readings. Responds quickly when placed on testing area. Neat and tidy carry case. Definitely a value for money purchase, especially if you're testing before a big outlay purchase.

I can’t evaluate the accuracy of this device because I have no empirical data to compare it with. To do that I would have to find a damp wall and ask a surveyor to use his professional moisture sensor to obtain a reading and then compare it with this. I can say that I was advised by a surveyor recently that one wall of our 130+ year old house has damp in the ‘risk’ area of the scale, and indeed this device confirmed that, but I don’t know the actual readings he obtained. So I am fairly confident that this works well enough for guidance, and indeed that is why I bought it. Most other meters of this kind have three buttons on the top to select which material you are testing (masonry, plaster or wood). You have to do this because the propensity of these materials to hold moisture safely requires different parameters. With this design all you do is press the appropriate button and then take a reading. Not so with this, and I cannot for the life of me understand what penny pinching LED to this design. In order to set the meter appropriately you have to press the Set button, and then tap the up or down arrow in order to select the first threshold value for the material you’re going to measure and then press Set again to set the next value. Then you press Set and then you press Calibrate. Then you can do your reading. As young people today would exclaim “You have to be kidding me!" So to use this for different surfaces you have do this multiple times. Why in the name of all that’s holy didn’t they just give us the three buttons? And to add insult to injury, the up and down buttons don’t spin through the values when you hold them down, it’s tap, tap, tap, tap, tap until you get to the value you want. Additionally you have to remember the values for each material or carry a cheat sheet with you. I have a label printer so I produced one to stick on the bottom of the casing. Why haven’t I returned it? Well I think it’s fairly accurate and I’m not intending to use it a lot, but if I were I’d send it back. Added to which, all the models with a ball sensor seem to have this design whereas the needle probe types have the more usable design, and I don’t want to drive sharp probes into the wall.

Very easy to use. I was doubtful about buying this but it has been really useful to monitor a damp area of wall. So easy to use and give a more accurate reading than the pin type monitor as it penetrates further in.

Great for the price. I have another one that is invasive (with pins) but this is great when you don't want to leave marks. Good visual and noise report. It can show false readings if near metal or wires so your aware, but just used my other one to verify if there were any high readi gs

You may think you're getting a lower standard piece of equipment because it's not a version with pins, but it's not true. Press the entire back of the meter firmly against the wall and you'll get a reading that's accurate enough. You can also test a visibly dry wall to test the other end of the scale. It was accurate enough for me to hold my property developers to account when they failed to install a damp course.
